The Riu Yucatan is approached through lush jungle, and rises up from a narrow sweep of white sand. The low-rise hacienda-style buildings nestle in well-tended gardens,.with the sound of waves gently lapping the shore. The pool area is flanked by tall palms and just footsteps from the beach. The terrace is a real sun trap, with two lagoon pools that come with a whirlpool bath, swim-up bars and complimentary pool towels, and of course sunbeds and parasols.
There’s plenty of choice when it comes to dining, with a main buffet, a Mexican and an Asian-themed restaurant and an à la carte steakhouse. The hotel is tastefully decorated with lots of marble-tiled flooring, in terracotta, lemon and white, the reception is reminiscent of a Spanish hacienda, while the bedrooms are predominantly gold and cream.
